Project Recap: Asphalt Milling & Commercial Paving in Lino Lakes
Project Overview
A property management company hired Erickson Asphalt as its asphalt contractor in Lino Lakes, MN, to develop a long term solution for a commercial parking lot with different traffic demands.
The heavy traffic section received a 2 inch mill and overlay using an asphalt mix designed for heavy truck traffic. The parking area was removed and replaced at full depth using a standard duty asphalt mix. This approach allowed each section of the property to receive the pavement structure and asphalt mix best suited for how it is used.

Challenges
During milling, our crew discovered an area within the overlay section that had only approximately 2 inches of existing asphalt. To create a stronger pavement structure, we regraded the area and installed a 2 inch base lift before placing the final asphalt overlay. This additional work was completed at no added cost to the client.
The project also required two different asphalt mix designs to accommodate the varying traffic demands throughout the parking lot. Paving operations were carefully coordinated to transition between the two mixes while maintaining hot longitudinal seams.
Results
The completed parking lot now has the proper pavement depth and asphalt mix in each area based on its expected traffic. The heavy truck section was reinforced for commercial vehicle use, while the parking area received a full depth replacement designed for standard traffic.
The result is a properly compacted parking lot built to provide reliable, long term performance for the property management company and its tenants.
