If you’re looking to have a concrete driveway installed, you probably already know what you want. You just need to find someone you can trust to do it right. Here’s what working with us looks like.
Erickson Asphalt & Concrete has been installing driveways across the Minneapolis area for over 35 years. We’re a family-owned company, fully licensed and insured, and we’ve built most of our business on referrals from homeowners who were happy with the work. We show up when we say we will, we keep you in the loop throughout the job, and we stand behind what we install.
What Goes Into a Concrete Driveway Installation
A concrete driveway is only as good as what’s underneath it. Before we pour anything, we grade and compact the ground and make sure drainage is taken care of. In Minnesota, that prep work matters more than most places. Frost heave can push a driveway around in a hurry if the base isn’t solid.
Once the ground is ready, we set the forms, add rebar or wire mesh for strength, and pour the concrete. Most residential driveways are poured at 4 inches thick. If you have heavy vehicles like trucks or an RV, we’ll talk about going to 6 inches.
After the pour, the concrete needs time to cure. Keep vehicles off it for at least 7 days. It reaches full strength at around 28 days.
Finish and Design Options
Plain gray concrete is a solid choice. It looks clean and holds up well. But if you want something that stands out a little more, there are options. Stamped patterns, exposed aggregate, brushed finishes, and added color are all things we can do. We’ll walk you through what fits your home and your budget before anything gets decided.
How Long Will It Last?
A well-installed concrete driveway will typically last 40 years or more. The biggest threat to that lifespan is deicing salt. Rock salt and calcium chloride both wear down concrete over time. We’ll tell you what’s safe to use and what to stay away from.
Getting the surface sealed every few years also goes a long way toward keeping it in good shape.
Already Have a Concrete Driveway That Needs Work?
If you’re dealing with cracks, a sunken apron, or a driveway that’s just past the point of repair, we can help with that too. We do concrete repairs and full driveway replacement as well. Not sure what you actually need? We’ll come take a look and give you a straight answer.
