If you need a new sidewalk installed, you’ve come to the right place. Whether it’s a front walk, a path to a detached garage, or a commercial sidewalk for your property, here’s what working with us looks like.

Erickson Asphalt & Concrete has been doing this work in the Minneapolis area for over 35 years. We’re a family-owned company, fully licensed and insured, and we’ve built most of our business on referrals. We show up when we say we will, we keep you in the loop, and we stand behind what we install.

What Goes Into a Concrete Sidewalk Installation

Good sidewalk work starts with the ground underneath. We grade and compact the base before any concrete is poured. In Minnesota, that prep step matters a lot. Freeze-thaw cycles will find every weak spot in a poorly prepped base, and a sidewalk that heaves or settles in the first few winters is a sign of skipped steps during installation.

Once the base is ready, we set the forms, add reinforcement, and pour the concrete. Control joints are cut at regular intervals to give the slab a place to expand and contract with temperature changes. This is what prevents random cracking.

After the pour, keep foot traffic off for at least 24 hours and avoid heavy loads for several days while it cures.

ADA Compliance

If your sidewalk connects to a public right-of-way, or if you’re a commercial property owner, ADA guidelines require specific slope, width, and surface standards for accessible paths. We design and install sidewalks to meet those requirements, including proper transitions and curb cuts where needed.

Finish Options

Standard brushed concrete is the most common choice. It holds up well and gives you good traction in wet and icy conditions. If you want something with more visual appeal, exposed aggregate and stamped finishes are both options. We’ll walk you through what makes sense for your project before anything gets decided.

Already Have a Sidewalk That Needs Repair?

If what you have is cracked, heaved, or uneven, we can take a look and tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense. Trip hazards and uneven slabs are worth addressing sooner rather than later, both for safety and to avoid liability on commercial properties.
