Plymouth is one of the most established suburbs in the west metro, and a lot of its driveways and parking lots are showing it. Surfaces paved during the buildout of Plymouth’s major neighborhoods are now 20 to 30 years old. When cracking has spread across the surface and sealcoating is no longer holding things together, the pavement needs more than maintenance.

Erickson Asphalt & Concrete has been serving Plymouth and Hennepin County for over 35 years. More than 500 verified Google reviews reflect what our work looks like in practice. We understand the soil conditions here, the seasonal timing that works for asphalt in this climate, and what it takes to build pavement that holds up through Minnesota winters.

What Our Customers Are Saying

Asphalt Services in Plymouth

  • Driveway Paving

Plymouth has a wide range of driveway ages, from 1970s-era surfaces in older neighborhoods to more recent installations in newer developments off Schmidt Lake Road and Rockford Road. When cracking has spread and the surface has started to settle or lose its drainage slope, replacement is the right move. We handle complete driveway tear-outs and installations, with proper grading, base preparation, and compaction. Every residential driveway comes with our industry-leading warranty.

  • Driveway Sealcoating

Sealcoating is the most cost-effective maintenance you can do for your asphalt. It blocks UV damage, keeps water out of cracks, and resists oil and chemical stains. For Plymouth driveways, we recommend sealcoating every two to three years. We handle driveway sealcoating and coordinate striping for commercial lots once the sealer has cured.

  • Apron Repair

A sunken apron creates a gap at the garage entrance where water pools and works under the slab. That gap also creates an ice hazard every winter. We remove the failed section, address the base problem that caused it, and install a proper repair that drains correctly.

  • Commercial Paving

Plymouth has significant commercial paving demand across its retail centers, office parks, and industrial properties. We handle parking lot construction, overlays, and full reconstruction, working around your operations to minimize disruption. Our crews have experience with the scale and scheduling demands of commercial sites throughout the west metro.

  • Commercial Sealcoating

For property managers and business owners, parking lot sealcoating extends pavement life and improves appearance at a fraction of replacement cost. We phase larger projects to maintain access and coordinate striping after the sealer cures.

  • Asphalt Repair

Potholes and alligator cracking get worse every freeze-thaw cycle. Our infrared patching process creates seamless repairs by heating the existing asphalt and blending in new material. For larger problem areas, we offer mill-and-patch and section replacement.

Why Base Work Matters in Plymouth

Plymouth’s soils are typical of the west metro, with glacial till that varies by location. Areas near Medicine Lake and Parkers Lake tend toward sandier, better-draining soils. Neighborhoods farther from the lakes and properties on former agricultural or fill ground can have higher clay content. Clay holds water, expands when frozen, and contracts when dry. That movement is what causes pavement to crack and settle, and it starts below the surface.

Proper base preparation means excavating to stable soil, compacting thoroughly, and building the right gravel depth before asphalt goes down. Skip that step, and good asphalt still fails in a few seasons. We do not skip it.

Permits and Regulations

Plymouth requires a building permit for new driveway installations and significant modifications to existing driveways. You submit the application to the City’s Building Inspection Division with a site plan showing the proposed location and dimensions. Routine maintenance like sealcoating does not require a permit. We determine what is needed for your specific project and handle the coordination as part of our project management.

Areas We Serve

We work throughout Plymouth, including established neighborhoods near Medicine Lake, Parkers Lake, and Schmidt Lake, residential areas along Vicksburg Lane, Fernbrook Lane, and Rockford Road, and commercial properties along Highway 169, County Road 9, and the I-494 corridor. From older neighborhoods in the south end of the city to newer developments in the north, we handle paving projects of all sizes.
