Anoka Sand Plain Soils

Zimmerman sits squarely on the Anoka Sand Plain, so the soils are predominantly sandy and well-draining. That’s generally favorable for asphalt, but loose sand can shift and settle if the base isn’t properly compacted, and frost still drives several feet down. We build a compacted, well-drained base so the surface stays put through the seasons.

Permit Requirements

Zimmerman requires permits for new driveways, driveway expansions, and curb cuts within the right-of-way, handled through the City of Zimmerman. A standard replacement on the existing footprint is usually less involved than a new or secondary driveway. If your drive connects to a county road, Sherburne County may require an access permit, and a connection to Highway 169 involves MnDOT. On rural and acreage properties, a new approach and its culvert often need county sign-off, and we handle that coordination.
