Permit Requirements

Elk River requires permits for various construction activities. The city specifies that approved driveway surfaces include asphalt, concrete, class 5 gravel, crushed rock, or equivalent materials. For new driveways or significant modifications, contact the City of Elk River Fire & Building Safety Division. If your driveway connects to a county road, you may need an additional permit from Sherburne County. Routine sealcoating does not require a permit. We handle permit coordination as part of our project management.
