Erickson Asphalt & Concrete recently completed a full reconstruction of the loading dock area for SRW Products in Princeton, MN. The project addressed long-standing issues with the original retaining walls, concrete surface, and drainage system, all of which had been damaged over time—primarily from repeated impacts by trucks backing into the dock.
SRW Products is a nationally recognized supplier of hardscape and erosion control products. Their Princeton location serves as both a distribution hub and manufacturing site, making a reliable loading dock essential for daily operations.
We removed the old concrete, the failing drain system, and the existing retaining walls. With the area cleared, we installed a new drainage system to improve water management before rebuilding the wall. We constructed a new retaining wall using machine-set Redi-Rock blocks from Eull Manufacturing. The loading dock was widened by one foot on each side to give drivers more room when backing in. For added stability, we installed geogrid reinforcement and placed water-permeable fabric with washed rock behind the wall to allow for proper drainage.
Once the wall was complete, we poured a new 6" concrete surface, reinforced with both fiber mesh and rebar to withstand the heavy truck traffic. Concrete was selected for its exceptional load-bearing strength and long-term durability, which makes it ideal for loading docks. A new concrete surmountable curb was later installed to direct water away from the dock, helping to protect the investment long-term. We repaved all disturbed asphalt areas and striped the lot for parking to finish the job.
